Continuing South Park Controversy: Series Removed from International Paramount+

According to cinemadrame News Agency, international subscribers of the streaming platform Paramount+ will no longer have access to the animated series “South Park.” The Hollywood Reporter has reported that with the expiration of the series’ international broadcast license, negotiations to bring it back have begun.
Just a few days ago, it was announced that the 27th season of the series would be delayed by two weeks and would air in the last week of July, as the legal battle between creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Paramount Global continues.
Following this delay announcement, the series’ official X (formerly Twitter) account published a message from the creators: “This Paramount Global/Skydance Media merger deal is a shit-show and has fucked with ‘South Park.’ We’re working on new episodes in the studio and hope fans will be able to see them somehow.”
Last month, it was reported that Parker and Stone threatened to sue Paramount, alleging that Jeff Shell, the future head of the studio, was interfering with their contract negotiations with Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix. Shell is expected to take over as the head of the new company after the merger of Paramount Global and Skydance Media.
Currently, two years remain on Paramount’s $900 million contract with “South Park.” The series first aired on the Comedy Central cable network in August 1997. The last episode of the twenty-sixth season premiered on March 29, 2023, and since then, it has continued with three special episodes from October of that year until May 2024.
